Star is the first rank in the “upper trail” of Scouts BSA advancement, following First Class. At this level, Scouts shift their focus toward leadership, community service, and earning merit badges—marking real growth on the path to Eagle Scout.
🔸 Merit Badges
Earn 6 merit badges, 4 of which must be Eagle-required (such as First Aid, Citizenship in the Nation, or Personal Fitness)
🔸 Leadership
Serve actively in a troop leadership position for at least 4 months
(Examples: Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Scribe, Instructor, etc.)
🔸 Service
Complete at least 6 hours of community service
(Must be approved by the Scoutmaster)
🔸 Scout Spirit
Demonstrate the values of the Scout Oath and Law in daily life
Participate regularly in troop meetings and outings
Have a Scoutmaster Conference and successfully complete a Board of Review
After Star comes Life Rank, followed by the final rank: Eagle Scout. Each step builds on leadership, merit badge achievements, and service to others.
