The Scout Rank serves as an introduction to Scouting. It helps new members learn the basics of the program, understand expectations, and begin participating actively in their troop.
A new Scout must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the following:
Scout Oath and Scout Law
Scout Motto ("Be Prepared") and Scout Slogan ("Do a Good Turn Daily")
Handshake, Sign, and Salute
Scout badge and uniform parts
Youth Protection Awareness β Includes a conversation with a parent/guardian about safe behavior
The Patrol Method β Understanding how the troop is organized
Troop structure and leadership roles
Buddy system use
Personal safety awareness
Once these are completed and reviewed with a troop leader, the Scout participates in a Scoutmaster Conference before earning the rank.
The Scout badge is a simple design with the fleur-de-lis (symbol of Scouting) in gold on a tan background. Itβs worn on the left pocket of the uniform.
