Life is the second-highest rank in Scouts BSA, earned after Star and just before Eagle Scout. At this stage, Scouts demonstrate stronger leadership, deeper service, and continued progress through merit badges. It’s a rank that reflects commitment, growth, and readiness to lead others.
🔸 Merit Badges
Earn 11 merit badges in total
At least 7 must be Eagle-required
🔸 Leadership
Serve actively in a troop leadership position for at least 6 months
(Examples: Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Den Chief, Troop Guide, etc.)
🔸 Service
Perform 6 hours of community service, approved by the Scoutmaste
Can be part of a troop project or outside organization
🔸 Scout Spirit
Live by the Scout Oath and Law every day
Show consistent responsibility, initiative, and mentorship
Have a Scoutmaster Conference
Successfully complete a Board of Review
The final rank is Eagle Scout, which includes:
Planning and leading a significant service project
Earning 21 merit badges (13 Eagle-required)
Continued leadership and Scout spirit
